Now start seeing food as fuel that feeds your daily needs

I hope you’re enjoying my free January Boot Camp series so far!  If you’re new to my programme then it’s still possible to take part.  The past couple of weeks’ videos are below this one and it’s not too late to jump on board with the action!

As you know, the Slimpod programme is totally different to anything else you’ll have done in the past.  We work on getting your mind in the right place to help you think and feel differently about food.

This means that with this programme you work at a deeper level and build more solid foundations so that the things that have held you back in the past no longer happen and you can move forward.

This is about Project YOU and this week’s video is all about food – but not in the way you think!

There’s so much confusion about food and what we eat has taken on all sorts of labels and meanings, when really the only thing food should be doing is supplying the nutrition necessary to feed our body’s daily needs !

And as promised last time, this week I also give tips on how to deal with fears and anxieties which may be holding you back – especially fear of failure.

It’s all here for you:

Key points:

** Weight loss is just as much a mental challenge as a physical one – getting stable foundations is crucial!

** There’s so much confusion surrounding food when it should be so easy!  Food takes on all sorts of meanings and labels but it shouldn’t be like this at all.

**  We should be thinking of food as something that purely serves the nutritional requirements of our bodies for health, energy and wellbeing.

** How to reframe your fears and stop self-sabotage.  Transform your negative thinking into something that will serve you well!  There’s no failure – just feedback!  Use this as your mantra from now on!

This week’s task

It really couldn’t be simpler! Keep listening to your Slimpod every day, go with the flow and give it the chance to do its work for you. Keep watching the videos, too.

With Slimpod you can finally overcome your fears and succeed

The thing I’ve noticed most during over a decade of helping people to lose weight is that after a few weeks of beginning the latest “new thing’”, the excitement and buzz wear off and fear and panic set in.

The destructive little voice in your head starts up again: “You’ll never succeed” or “You always fail, what’s so different this time?” or “What if I don’t lose weight?” or “What will people think if I fail again?”

Well, if this happens to you, I can tell you that  you’re not alone. This is such a common thing and it can be stopped.

You CAN overcome fear and succeed.

You CAN turn fear on its head and get freedom from food and be in control.

And believe me, it’s transformational when you do!  It’s what I talk about in today’s video.

I also talk about food and your full signal – it’s a must-watch video!

Summary

** If you have a fear of failing you really must take action. Goals shouldn’t be obstacles, they should be things that allow you to measure your success and progress on to the next level.

** Motivation is paralysed by fear. Decide what you want from the world and go get it. We don’t have to be held back by our minds.

** Task one: Spend time thinking about whether your fears are holding you back.

** Task two: While you’re eating this week, put down your phone, close your laptop and switch off the TV.  Enjoy the food and listen for your full signal!

Take these simple steps and start thinking like a slimmer person

Happy New Year and a very warm welcome to my new year Boot Camp!  Yes, it’s time to shake off the cobwebs and get 2020 off to a great start!  And here’s the thing:  This Boot Camp is different.  It’s like nothing you’ve done before because we don’t just focus on food and exercise.

Living a healthy life and achieving sustainable weight loss are more of a mental challenge than just a physical one.  So we focus on getting your mind in a place to enable lasting change.

This Boot Camp will be full of valuable tips to empower you to think like a slimmer person, because this is the life-changing bit!  No more falling off the wagon – how good will that feel?!

Here’s the first video – enjoy!

Key points

** The three pillars of this programme are listening, watching and noting the all important wins .  Daily repetition is the key to success.

** The extra very important task is to work on your goal.  What do you REALLY want to achieve in 2020?  Think deeply about this and make it meaningful.

** Create your own goal map with my friend Brian Mayne’s free goalmapping system

** Avoid using the scales as your measure of success.  Take yourself out to the future – to next Christmas – how do you want to feel?  What size clothes would you like to be in?

** Think about your health, especially if you have diabetes or other conditions.  What would you like to achieve?

** Above all – think LONG TERM!  This is crucial because we’re all about long term success here, and a major shift in the way you think about yourself.  This is what brings contentment and sustainable weight loss.

Action in Slimpod Club

I’ll be posting a video every Monday throughout January and we’ll be very active in Slimpod Club, so look out for the special Boot Camp thread.

Beware of the winter weight gain season – mini-series, Part 4

CHRISTMAS is supposed to be a fun time of year, full of cheer. But it can also be full of stress! So many people find Christmas challenging for all sorts of reasons.

It’s a time when the best eating and exercise habits can fall by the wayside because there’s wall to wall food, parties and booze!Exercise and self-care often put on the back burner through lack of time.

Then the inevitable happens, we feel rubbish, the guilt sets in and we start beating ourselves up!

But we really shouldn’t do that because a weight loss journey is full of obstacles, whether they be seasonal stress, Christmas parties, comfort eating or a million other things!

Debbie O’Connor posted a great message in Slimpod Club the other day in which she associated losing weight with being a toddler – especially at this time of year.

Debbie’s Slimpod Club post

When you’re starting to walk, you come up against all sorts of obstacles. You fall down and you get back up again – but you keep going until you can walk.

Even when you get hurt you get back up and carry on!

This time of year is one big obstacle for those of us aiming to get into smaller clothes. And sometimes we just have to accept it as it is, because it’s only a short time.

If you deviate from your plan, that’s absolutely fine. Just think like a toddler.

Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, know it’s only temporary and move on. Don’t throw your toys out of the pram and give up!

Another thing about Christmas is that it can be really hard to stay motivated to keep the exercise going, especially if your default position is to eat more and do less.

Before you realise it, the winter blues kick in because you’re not getting the same level of nature’s happy drugs (like sunshine, exercise and fresh air) to keep you balanced.
So let’s deal with this right now!

As I’ve said many times, it’s SO important to be aware that you’re being less active but unless you have solid habits in place it’s really easy to let life take over.

Did you know that the average person puts on up to 8lbs over the winter? Incredible isn’t it?

But if you adjust things a little and keep moving you’ll stay happy and help keep the weight off too.

Part four of my mini-series on beating winter comfort eating is below. In previous weeks we’ve looked at how you can tell if emotional eating is happening; why your hunger signal becomes disabled; and the art of recognising your eating triggers.

Now watch his week’s video and comment below if it’s helped you. I love hearing from you.

Plus, subscribe to my YouTube channel and connect with me on Instagram. I’m also going to be on a Facebook Live video talking about this very subject tonight (Wednesday December 11) at 7.30 UK time. Join me!

Please leave a comment below. I read every single one and I know from feedback I get that other people find them very inspiring.

SUMMARY

** Humans can easily go into hibernation at this time of year. Be aware when you start eating more and doing less because that’s the warning sign.

** If it’s too nasty to go outside, find some YouTube exercise videos you can do inside. Restore your get-up-and-go and you’ll feel a whole lot better about yourself.

** Turn indoor exercise into a habit by doing it regularly and you’ll train your brain to get the same buzz from exercise as it does from food and sugar.

Three things you need when you’re losing weight – special video

I need to share some excitement with you! Some people who’ve been with us for a while will know we carried out a very successful clinical trial on our Slimpod a few years ago.

However, to make maximum clinical impact I knew we had to get the results in front of GPs.

I’ve been trying to do this for a few years now, and then suddenly I got notification that it had been accepted for presentation at a very important GPs conference in March.

I cried.  Seriously.

I was totally overwhelmed with emotion and really couldn’t believe this was happening.

Because there were times during this process when I just had to walk away and stop trying, for my own sanity.

It was all consuming and quite destructive.

But then I’d go back to it because my mission to help people is so strong and I absolutely know we can make a difference and change lives – especially the lives of those with pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes.

But here’s the thing –  when the buzz of excitement left me and I came back down to earth, I realised the journey I’ve been on with this clinical trial process has a lot in common with a weight loss journey.

So in this video I’m sharing some huge learnings and tips which I know will help you. Click on the picture to start the video…

One little task will help stop emotional eating – mini-series, part 3

Last time in my mini-series on how to stop emotional eating we learned how many people trying to change their eating habits have actually lost touch with real hunger as opposed to emotional hunger.

I explained how important it is to practise connecting with our body’s signals that tell us when we’re genuinely full or whether we only think we need to eat because we’re filling an emotional need.

In this week’s video, we’re looking further at emotional eating, which is often an automatic habit that has built up over years.

The key to changing such a habit is first to be aware of it, and that will require a little bit of time and effort as it can be hard to recognise emotional eating in the moment you’re doing it.

Click on the picture to start this week’s video and please feel free to share it with friends who might also find it helpful.

Please leave a comment below. I read every single one and I know from feedback I get that other people find them very inspiring.

SUMMARY

** Next time you eat without thinking about it (usually a sure sign of emotional eating) be honest with yourself and work out what was behind it.

** For a few days, note down what happened in the minutes or hours leading up to it and write down how you felt about it.

** Pretty soon a pattern will emerge – it could be boredom, stress, unhappiness, comfort or something else.

** Awareness of your emotional triggers will help you to spot them before you turn to food.

You don’t just eat to satisfy real hunger – mini-series, part 2

LAST time we looked at the reasons so many of us eat more once the dark nights of autumn drop in and winter is nearly upon us. We learned how our brains are programmed to respond to stimuli such as lack of light and the cold by eating and storing fat.

We also discussed how this kind of emotional eating can be banished because emotional eating is never really about food. If we find the cause, we can break the cycle.

This week in part two of my mini-series, I’ve got a really quick video for you – but don’t be fooled by the length, it contains a REALLY important question for you to think about…

Do you know what hunger actually feels like?

Yes, REAL hunger! Not the frequent excuse for mindless munching that we fool ourselves with.

Please share this blog and the video with anyone who’ll find them useful.

My mission is to raise everyone’s awareness of the dangers of our eating habits, because I want to combat the scourge of type 2 diabetes.

You’ll find sharing links below this blog.

And please, please leave a comment because they’re so inspiring for others – and I love reading them all, too.

SUMMARY

** Very often, people don’t only eat because they’re hungry – they do it because they’re stressed, bored, angry or because it’s a habit.

** Eating too much sugar in the form of fructose disables the hormone leptin, which sends out hunger signals when you really need to eat because your body needs fuel (healthy food!)

** You need to practise reconnecting to your hunger signals – which is what a Slimpod does – so you can stop over-eating
